Simone Awhina is an internationally acclaimed award winning
vocalist, concert/recording artist, sound therapist and workshop presenter.
With a combined style reminiscent of Barbara Streisand, Celine Dion and Enya,

Simone won six medals at the World Championships of Performing Arts in

CHUK
“Chukinho” BARBER
Playing drums since he was eleven years old, Chukinho has had sticks in his hands for over 40 years. A student of legendary jazz drummer, Hal Blaine, Chukinho was a grounding member in many garage bands in the early 60s. He founded the Virginia/North Carolina-based premiere jazz group “Heroes” in the late 70s. Moving to New Orleans in 1986, he co-founded “Casa Samba,” New Orleans’ first Samba School. After many trips to Rio de Janeiro and Salvador, Bahia, to hone his skills, Chukinho was picked from a handful of non-Brazilian born “bateristias” to accompany the World Champion Brazilian Soccer Team on a world-tour as part of their Samba Band or “Bateria.” He’s played with some of New Orleans’ greatest musicians and bands including: Dr. John, The Neville Brothers, Sun Ra, Michael Ray and Cosmic Ray, to name a few. He taught Brazilian Drum and Dance, Capoeira and, along with Baba Kenyatta Simon, created the Academy of African Culture at New Orleans Charter Middle School. In 1997, he was called up to the “Big Leagues” to play alongside his musical heroes in the Original Low Riders, aka WAR, as part of the driving rhythm section that has become the band’s signature trademark. Since moving to Portland, Chukinho, along with another New Orleans musician, Tom Sandahl, and 5 of Portland’s finest, created the group, Indigo, fusing Brazilian Bossa Nova with Jazz and Funk beautifully.

An award-winning songwriter (Grand Prize, Portland Music Association Songwriter’s Contest) and was voted into The Oregon Music Hall of Fame in 2001. As a member of national acts "Nu Shooz" and "Body & Soul," he toured the U.S. and played on "The Pat Sajak Show" and the NBC Today show. His song DON’T STOP NOW was recorded by Vanilla Fudge on their reunion album. Mark’s CD "Shed My Skin"was featured as one of the best independent albums by Performing Songwriter Magazine. Locally, Mark has performed live on KINK, Z100, KEX, KGW TV, AM Northwest and Good Day Oregon and has sung the National Anthem numerous times at Portland Trailblazer games. JO ANNA BURNS-MILLER
A Portland native who has captivated audiences for almost four decades with her crystal clear voice, tasty piano and engaging personality. Jo Anna began classical studies at the age of nine and was singing professionally as a young teenager. Later, she traveled for 20 years entertaining in nightclubs and cabarets. In 1986 Jo Anna began singing in New Thought churches and was the music director for seven years at Living Enrichment Center. Jo Anna has written almost 200 inspirational songs. Most notable are her award-winning vocal recordings of REMEMBER ME (used nationally by Bereavement and Hospice groups), MAKING CHANGES, IN YOUR PRESENCE, WHEN I OPEN MY MIND and THE HEART’S DESIRE BLUES. Her relaxing Instrumentals DESERT FLOWER and SNOW FLOWER are used world-wide in holistic health practices. DANIEL
CROTHERS
Although he was performing concerts by age 7, doing Bach three-part inventions, Beethoven and Hayden, Chopin, Debussy, Bartok and many more, his interest in spiritual things was far more important. By age 14, he began to have enlightening experiences during meditations. He experienced some major life-changing miracles at 15 and became a missionary. Though he still played music, it wasn’t till age 21 that he decided to develop the music for the purpose of bringing the spiritual message to others. He learned to do video, wrote soundtracks for several movies and many commercials, and wrote songs for various churches including Unity World Healing Center in Lake Oswego, where he now is the music director. His life is dedicated to the spiritual quest. Daniel’s latest project is working with one of the world’s great music producers, Ron Nevison, doing a soundtrack for a film to be released in Hollywood in 2007. Daniel has been around the world and performed with the Russian Ballet, along with countless world-class performers and movie stars.

A bit of a legend in the Portland area, having performed with most of the Who’s Who in the region, such as Kenny G, Curtis Salgado, Jeff Lorber, Ron Steen and Mel Brown. Nationally, Edwin has worked with the likes of Herbie Hancock, Carmen McRea, Sonny Stitt, John Lee Hooker, and others. For several years he added his special spark playing electric guitar for New Song Community church. Currently, he leads a dynamic group called Sumo Band and can be heard playing several nights each week in Portland’s vibrant night life.

Music director/coordinator for Beaverton Unity, Alan is a former member of the Living Enrichment Center's music team and former music director for Whole Life Church. JIM TEMPLETON
Pianist Jim Templeton has led bands in the USA, and Denmark (where he lived for 16 years). He holds a MM in Piano from Louisiana State University, and has taught at conservatories and universities both here and abroad. He holds various honors, including Phi Beta Kappa, and was awarded the 1993 Washington State Artist Trust Grant for one of his original jazz compositions.In Spokane, where he lived from 1988-2005, Jim was pianist at “The Unity Center,” formerly Unity of North Spokane, and also pianist at “The Spokane Spiritual Center.” From 1989 until 1997 he served often at Unity Church of Spokane.Also in Spokane he performed several times with the Spokane Symphony, and The Spokane Jazz Orchestra. He established CENTERFEST, a music festival with 12 groups, at Spokane Center Stage/ella’s Jazz Restaurant November 6. He composed and produced a combined art work for the Met Theater, involving poetry, dance, music, and slides.Since coming to Vancouver (November, 2005), he has performed with various jazz artists, the Bravo Series, and at the Vancouver Wine and Jazz Festival.

LINDA TROTTA
She was influenced by her father’s beautiful voice, and love of music. Her vocal tutoring took place in the church balcony, and expanded to private operatic study with Primo Lino Puccinelli in Pasadena, California. A liberal arts education and advanced music theory followed. The highlight of her formal training came when she invested several years studying with the famed Tom Blaylock in Portland. Linda has been singing professionally since 1980 with many touring bands, culminating in the eight-piece big band "Linda Trotta and Out of the Blue," which was a club favorite and regular at Waterfront events for several years during the1990s. She performed with local artists such as Duffy Bishop, Robbie Laws, Paulette, and many others. Her passion now is the envelope-pushing R&B band "Linda Trotta and Friends." A life-long student of spirituality, she currently performs in New Thought churches, most notably the Portland Center for Spiritual Awareness (PCSA). Recordings include "Upside of the Blues" and "Rough Cuts."

KEN BREWER
He grew up playing guitar and piano, studying Music Education at the University of Bridgeport. His desire to teach music gave way to his passion for performance, playing with a variety of musical groups and moving to the Bay Area in 1980. He joined a pop band traveling the west coast, eventually settling in eastern Oregon. Hooking up with the rock band Tukannon, Ken traveled extensively throughout the western states and Canada. Portland became his home in the mid 1980s where he became an integral part of the local blues scene, belonging to many notable groups such as The Norman Sylvester Band, Paul DeLay, Ellen Whyte and Robbie Laws. A sound engineer as well as performer, he continues to play regularly at blues clubs in Portland. Interested in spirituality, and a member of the Unity Church of Lake Oswego for a time, he joined Linda Trotta and Friends in 2005.

SHULTZ
A professional musician since 1973, Don began his drumming career at Lake Tahoe, performing locally with various rock bands. A transition to R&B led to a re-location to Monterey, California where his music studies continued at Monterey Peninsula College while performing locally with the Monterey Jazz Quintet. Changing styles again, a move to San Francisco, for a foray into the emerging punk rock genre. From punk to country music for 15 years, 5 on the road and as opening act for Sawyer Brown (the ’Buick’ tour). The past several years have been spent in Portland as a blues drummer. Don is the proud recipient of 4 ‘Muddy Awards’ from the Cascade Blues Association for recordings and performances with Duffy Bishop, Robbie Laws, and Rick Welter, as well as nominee for ‘best blues drummer, 1998. Don is a versatile musician that is comfortable playing many styles. Teaching and building drums are additional interests. Don is currently teaching and performing in the Portland area. He joined Linda Trotta & Friends in 2006.

SOLBERG
Jim grew up in Richland, Washington and came from a musical family. He began playing music at the age of 9. Jim’s dad played clarinet & saxophone. His mom and brother both played piano & accordion. His first gig was at 12 years old with his dad’s band “The Polka Dots.” Since moving to Oregon, Jim has played and studied with some of the best musicians in the business. He has played many styles, recorded numerous albums and CDs with many bands, most recently “The Lloyd Jones Struggle” and “The Jim Mesi Band,” both very popular Portland-based R&B bands. While touring with The Lloyd Jones Struggle, the band opened in concert for BB King, Robert Cray, Bonnie Raitt, Etta James, Dr. John and Charlie Musslewhite. Jim currently plays bass with the Swingline Cubs and others here in the Portland area. He enjoys performing locally, and graces Linda Trotta & Friends with his heart and soul as well as his venerable talent!
LARHONDA STEELE
She grew up in Oklahoma in an environment of music. Both her parents sing and her father also played drums. She followed her mother’s lead by singing Gospel in church and remembers their small Baptist congregation as an excellent setting for her first public singing appearance at age 13. Since moving to Portland about 10 years ago, LaRhonda has developed her skills by performing with a variety of groups, such as The Norman Sylvester Band, Kita Montgomery, the Ken DeRouchie Band, the No deLay Band, Linda Trotta’s Out of The Blue, and Obo Addy’s modern American Jazz-African High Life group. In 2004, LaRhonda and Linda Trotta teamed up again, and she joined Linda Trotta and Friends. LaRhonda is a professional in high demand, and sings regularly with a variety of artists including many listed above, as well as,Ocean 503, Kim Ralfs, and her own trio with Mark Steele and Johnny Russell.

A New Thought minister who focuses her ministry on music. Her passion is leading congregational singing. Robin was the founder and leader of the Musical Celebration, a weekly musical service held for over 3 years at Unity of Beaverton. DOUG VERIGIN
Doug’s mom was a church organist and music was a family activity. He started piano at six, but became fascinated with drums at age 7, and constructed a cardboard box/ milk can drum set, pretending he was Ringo Starr. For over forty years, drumming has been a part of his life, but ten years ago, he began playing guitar to accompany chants and songs for sacred services. Gradually, guitar became his primary instrument, and he started writing songs. His musical experience includes small jazz combos and big bands, orchestral work, musical theatre orchestras, pop and rock bands. Currently, he is the Music Director of the Abundant Life Center, an independent New Thought church in Vancouver,Washington. The CD "Pages of Time" is his first major recording effort.

She grew up in the Pacific Northwest with activist parents who heated with wood, baked bread weekly and kept a big garden. She was a highly-practiced walkman singer before she risked solo performance. Subtly literate, her songs ring with melodies that reflect the words’ meanings and hop with rhythmic life. Raised on soul music/funk, 1960’s folk, and Broadway musicals, Wyers winds science and spirit together in pieces about honeybees, subliming, and a metal detector man. Wyers plays her tone-deaf dad’s gorgeous 1956 Gibson guitar. She released her first CD, “Clear,” in 2003 earning finalist awards, invitations to perform at 6 national songwriting competitions, including Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Kerrville Folk Festival, Rocky Mt. Folks Festival, and the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.
