Following the Path of Abraham

A 12-day Tour of Turkey and Syria

Presented by the Association for Global New Thought and
United Centers for Spiritual Living
in partnership with the Abraham Path Initiative

Join your New Thought Community on this historic path of discovery! Our travels will focus on the magnificent land of the prophet Abraham, the common ancestor of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. We'll meet the people who dwell in these ancient lands, traveling through rural villages, ancient cities and monasteries, with ample time for reflection and deepening in some of the most sacred sites on earth.

 October 21 - November 1, 2008

The Association for Global New Thought, partnering with the Abraham Path Initiative, has been stewarding the development of 'Abraham Walks' in communities throughout the world since 2004. The local walks are undertaken in a context of deep study and dialogue focused on the common ancestry of Abraham, and to promote opportunities for greater understanding among Abrahamic faiths on the local level.

 The Prophet Abraham

A Legacy of Welcome

Little is known of the historical figure Abraham, but much is known of the values he and his family embody. It is said that Abraham's tent was open in all four directions, indicating the generous hospitality with which he welcomed visitors. As we travel this itinerary, we'll see that the Abraham Path is more than a route or a series of historical sites; it is a path to experiencing Abrahamic values such as hospitality and respect, and the rich history and cultural traditions of the regions.

The Tour Route

From Southern Turkey Through Syria

As we follow the cultural route of the Abraham Path through Turkey and Syria, we'll journey through lands that have sustained and nourished the lives of ancient and modern peoples, lands which gave birth to Abraham, Sarah, Hagar and the children of Abraham. We will journey through time from the Neolithic culture recently uncovered at Gobeklitepe, the site of the world's earliest known temple, c.10,000 BC, to the busy streets of the modern cities of the region.

The initial Abraham Path route begins from the ancient arch in the center of Harran, in the ruins of the old Mesopotamian city, where Abraham is said to have heard the call of God to 'go forth.' The route proceeds historical and cultural sites of outstanding interest and beauty, including crossing the Euphrates River, visiting Aleppo, the dead cities, Deir Mar Musa, and ending in the legendary city of Damascus.

We'll spend two nights as guests of this ancient monastery carved from solid rock in the desert mountains.

We will be led by a team of professional local guides and interpreters for a deep experience of the land, the people, and the richness of each culture.

The intention for this exciting and historic event is to join New Thought people together in heart-centered relationship with some of the oldest cultures on earth. We will practice eco-tourism and cultural respect, exploring what it means to truly "be the change we wish to see."  We hope you'll join us.
